Though there might be several challenges at times, being a productive stay at home mom is super important. When I first became a stay at home mom, I used to feel a little lost.

The fact is, I knew what to do each day and I would try, but sometimes I got to the end of one day and suddenly thought “What did I do today? It’s not an exciting experience at all. I started to do many tasks but didn’t finish any of them.

Tip 1: Get up before the kids

I know this one is definitely easier said than done and sometimes I am still working on it. Here, it doesn’t mean you have to get up 2 hours before everyone else to be a more productive stay at home mom. Waking up even 30 minutes before your kids can make a huge impact on your day.

Just imagine getting ready without anyone climbing on you. You can comfortably drink a cup of coffee while doing a Bible study or reading book in silence. You may think it takes time but in fact, these things can easily be done in 30 minutes. What’s more wonderful?

Getting up before the kids means you have some time to yourself, to get focused on the day.

Tip 2: Let the kids help

If possible, let your kids help you with some simple tasks. This brings them something to do while you are getting stuff done around the house. By this, your child can help you instead of sitting down in front of the television.

Allowing your kids to help also means you are making effort to handle a lazy child. For example, my three-year-old daughter can feed the dogs and help with dishes.

Don’t expect too much that your child could do it perfectly. Actually, she’s just learning to do it. The task will sometimes take a lot longer than we usually want it to.

Yes! To be honest, it takes more patience for me to let my child help me with things instead of getting everything done myself. However, I get benefit from this. I know my little girl is learning from these tasks and that my patience is completely worth it. This also expresses that you are a productive stay at home mom.

Tip 3: Write things down

Women are always trying to remember everything for everyone. However, that is the reason why we forget so many things. I am also in that situation many times. And writing things down is really good for me as I know am not going to keep everything in mind.

It’s important for a productive stay at home mom to make a to-do list everyday. We should write out important dates in our calendar once a week, and then keep all grocery list as well as other random ideas on our phone.

Tip 4: Make meal plan

As you have to eat every day and feed your kids every day, having a meal plan is essential. A proper meal plan can help you save money, stay healthy and also save your sanity.

I personally hate blinding going into dinner time and throwing something together at random by the last minute. Instead, I’d rather take 30 minutes a week to plan out our meals. Trust me, it’s going to be so convenient.

It is not hard to let our kids have too much screen time. And though we all know that too much screen time is bad for them, many moms still leave the television on all day long. Productive stay at home moms should remember that YouTube is not a babysitter.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter. For example, when I really need a break, I will let my little girl watch a couple of television shows so she will be quiet while watching a video on my phone. But seriously, our kids are missing out on so many learning opportunities when they have so much screen time.

Tip 6: Put your phone down

Productive stay at home moms should know that kids are not the only ones who should limit their screen time. Moms also need to limit yours as well. Do you know that Social Media can be the biggest hindrance to stay at home mom time management?

Have you ever noticed that your kids begin to act up more when you are scrolling through your phone? I suggest that you should put your phone down and pay more attention to your kiddo.

This will not only help with your kid’s behavior, it will also help you be a more productive stay at home mom. Social media is surely a time sucker and I bet that you did have time to do that load of laundry, but instead, you chose to be on social media. I have been in that situation. I’ve wasted hours on Facebook when it only takes 15 minutes for me to wash the dishes.

Tip 7: Never let the laundry pile up

It’s bad! I used to let the laundry pile up until I did 5 loads in one day. That day was so terrible and exhausting. Even, I sometimes didn’t get everything done.

These days, more and more women face stay at home mom depression. One of the leading causes for this problem is because they don’t have a chance to work and make money. Financial pressure makes them feel worse while being at home.

To be a productive stay at home mom means you know effective ways to earn cash. Today, there are many things you can do to earn a little bit of extra cash from home. For example, you can start a mom blog to make money, sell items in your home that you no longer use or start an online store.

Tip 9: Get out of the house

When you are a productive stay-at-home mom, you will know how to balance things in your life. When to work and when to have a rest. Getting out of the house will break up the monotony and keep things exciting. Below are a few ideas:

  • Go to the park
  • Visit the library
  • Grab a coffee
  • Visit friends/family
  • Visit grandparents who are retired
  • Get out with your children

Start applying at least some of the ideas above and you can see the difference in your daily life. Motherhood can be overwhelming, but these simple tips will let you be a productive stay at home mom.
