When was the last time you went out on a casual date? You don’t remember it, do you? For me, it was the same. Going out on a date night as a mom can be daunting for a number of reasons (finances, the ages of your children, family support, childcare support, etc.). However, not getting enough alone time with your partner can make you feel burnt out and disconnected—and it doesn’t have to be that way! You just need some date suggestions for at-home dates.
Fortunately, I found that we don’t need to leave the house to have a good time. Dating at home was a great way for me to breathe new life into my marriage. Furthermore, having a date night at home has many benefits.
First and foremost, I don’t need to spend a lot of money on a babysitter when we’re spending time at home while the kids are sleeping. Also, since my husband and I both lead busy lives, it’s difficult to schedule date nights and keep them organized. As a result, versatility is crucial!
Finally, there have been a number of limitations lately as a result of the pandemic. It just complicates things and, to be frank, makes things less romantic. So, for me, date nights at home are the greatest! Find out the best at-home date night ideas if you’re wondering what to do on these nights.
So, let’s get started!
Home-made Pizza Night
Don’t we all like pizza? Why not make a nice night out of it with some homemade pizza? Don’t worry if you don’t know how to make pizza at home. Simply perform a fast search for the best recipes and begin making your own pizza with your partner.
Many grocery stores sell premade dough balls and your favorite pizza toppings if you want to take it easy. Simply roll out the dough according to the instructions. Pizza isn’t your thing? Together, try a new recipe!
One of my favorite romantic date night ideas is to hold a sampling session. What I like about it is that there are so many different things to try: wine tasting, chocolate tasting, ice cream tasting, cake tasting, smoothie tasting, and cheese tasting.
You can make it even more enjoyable by taking tasting notes. You’ll be able to see how close your tastes are to your husband’s.
It could feel wonderful (and surprising) to give each other massages after a long day at work. Watch a few YouTube videos beforehand if you want to take your massage skills to the next stage. If you learn new strategies, your partner will be extremely grateful! Even, have some massage oil, coconut oil, lotion, or something else you have on hand!
Do you want to splurge? Did you know that massage therapists in many places make house calls? It sounds magical, but I’ve never done it.
If you can’t afford to go out for a nice meal, make one at home. To set the mood with some good food, all you need are a few candles and maybe some flowers. You can also order in if you don’t want to cook. The most important thing is to spend quality time with your loved ones and eat by candlelight.
Are you on the lookout for something unique? Then throw a theme party! There are a plethora of options available. You can choose a country to visit that you’ve always wanted to visit.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Italy: You and your partner should make Italian pasta or pizza, then enjoy your favorite gelato.
- Mexico: Make Mexican cuisine the focal point of your at-home date night. Tacos, burritos, and nachos are all options.
- Sushi night in Japan!
- Make a Greek salad and serve it with hummus and pita bread.
- France: Sample a variety of cheeses before sipping some wine (my personal preference and love language!).
- Make a traditional Moroccan tagine and sip Moroccan mint tea in Morocco.
This is a tried-and-true at-home date night concept. All night long, watch a favorite TV show or movie. You can either choose a new series/movie to watch or make it a nostalgic night by watching old favorites. Another choice is to make it thematic by choosing films starring your favorite actor or from the same genre. Remember to bring your favorite treats!
There’s nothing like sitting outside on the terrace on a humid summer night. Take your laptop outside and watch a movie with your significant other after building a warm, cozy environment with candles and comfortable pillows.
If it’s cold outside, consider curling up with snacks, drinks, or a movie near an outdoor fire pit.
Sing Along Together
If you’re looking for a fun date night idea, I’m sure you’ll enjoy karaoke night (assuming you have a soundproof space). All you need is a microphone and access to YouTube (create a playlist from lyrics videos). Personally, I’d require a glass of wine as well.
Board Game Together
Board games are still in style. Play Monopoly, Uno, Backgammon, Danger, or Scrabble, among other classic board games. For your game night, select a new game that you’ve always wanted to try. You can make each game more fun by giving prizes to the winner and punishing the loser. For example, the winner may receive a complimentary massage, while the loser may be expected to prepare dinner the following day. Using the imagination and have fun with the games.
Simple activities, such as cooking, can be turned into contests. Challenge each other to come up with the most delectable and inventive dishes possible. You can make it more complicated by settling on a single ingredient that both of you would use in your dishes. Let’s see who’s going to be the house chef: you or your partner?
What I like most about this cook-off is that each competition brings you closer together. They’re great for boosting your friendship!
DIY Project Together
Choose a DIY project that you and your partner would enjoy doing together. You may, for example, make a scrapbook, restore old furniture, decorate mugs, or paint. When completed together, these tasks can be a lot of fun, and they’re both great bonding events.
You don’t have to leave camping because you don’t have enough time. Get a tent and sleeping bags and spend the night in the great outdoors. Or just sleep under the stars if that’s what you want to do!
And if the weather isn’t cooperating, you can have a nice campout in your living room. This is something I believe your kids will enjoy as well!
You can have a picnic in your backyard if the weather is good. Prepare a blanket, some snacks, and a bottle of wine or champagne, and enjoy your date “out.” After that, catch a kite or some golf balls and make your own mini golf course for an added dose of fun.
